No time to paint

Happy new year!!! I’ve had such a busy few months, unfortunately not so busy in the art department!

Back in October we ordered a new kitchen with 5 weeks delivery time. ‘Brilliant’, we thought, enough time for us to rip out the old one , re-decorate, lay the floor and, boom…, new kitchen in time for Christmas.

Here I am in January, still no kitchen, house upside down, decorating gear in every direction you look, new kitchen and appliances stored in in every room of the house! Throw in, Christmas shopping, a trip to England, Christmas generally….. you get the picture. So as you can imagine there’s not been much time for art.

I love this wallpaper we discovered behind a cupboard!

Here and there I’ve managed to steal some time for a little bit of sketching and some mini abstract landscapes on canvas board and paper, keeping supplies and materials simple.

Sketches using watercolour pencils and watercolours

Mini semi abstract sketches in acrylic (about 5cm square) which I eventually turned Christmas cards.

When time is short, working on smaller things with few supplies that are readily available is key to squeezing in some creative time.

Mini abstracts on paper and canvas board using thick paint and a palette knife and a limited palette.

So excited as I am to have a lovely new kitchen, I can’t wait for it to be finished so I can get back to my art!!

How do you squeeze in time for art when life gets busy?
